The traditional ‘one size fits all' approach to medicine has made adverse events one of the largest killers worldwide, with an estimated 100,000 deaths in the US alone and a cost of at least £2 billion to the NHS each year.

To help address this problem Geneix have developed a point of prescription digital solution called InterAct.

InterAct checks for any potential drug to drug interactions in 4 simple steps:

1. First InterAct retrieves a patient's electronic health record (EHR) and compiles a complete list of their current treatments
2. The user submits a the treatment they wish to prescribe - either by drug name or by class
3. InterAct analyses a complex drug database to create a list of any potential interactions between the new prescription and a patient's current treatments. If a high or moderate level interaction is found InterAct will recommend alternatives with few or no known interactions
4. The user can select whether to prescribe the new treatment, if they do InterAct will automatically update their patient's EHR

InterAct has been designed with the user in mind. It's simple, doesn't require any training and gives healthcare professionals the confidence of knowing that their prescription choice has been verified by a NICE accredited, UK pharmaceutical database.

In the future InterAct will extend to genetics, helping to optimise prescription choice further by ensuring that a prescribed drug is not only unlikely to interact with a patient's current treatments but that, based on their genetic profile, it's the most suitable treatment for them.
